Adaptive Bitrates tested with slow Celcom 3G
It's holiday week for most Malaysia, and as expected the 3G provided by our operator will be congested. So it's good time to test out our ABR live streaming. We use Wowza Streaming Engine to live transcode RTM Malaysia incoming high quality stream to 4 bitrates quality before deliver them to CDN.
I did a ping test to Google own DNS server located at 8.8.8.8 while playing livestreaming on Google Chrome.
We can watch the stream at 160p and sometime switched to 240p, which is quite good with the current bandwidth quality. The latency to our CDN was averaged around 550ms and each HLS ( 387kb ) chunk took 5 seconds to download.
